MEASURES AGAINST ANIMALS, PESTS, AND INFESTATION
The Continent is a 4-star hotel located in Australia. It is a hotel well-known for its restaurant, La Bellissima, a casual dining restaurant that serves Italian cuisines.
You are a long-time kitchen staff of La Bellissima. Today, you are asked to train new kitchen staff about the measures you can apply to remain pest and vermin free. And so, you explain to the new staff what they are expected to do to keep the food handling areas clean and pest free.
One of the staff asks what they must do if a pest infestation occurs. As an experienced kitchen staff, you enumerate the different methods you can eliminate pests. You also emphasise the need to read and follow the manufacturer’s instructions when using pesticides and mouse traps.
Role Play Activity
Role play the scenario with two or more volunteers to show the different methods of preventing and eliminating pests and animals in food handling areas. At the same time, you must demonstrate the practical skills listed in the checklist below.
Perform this activity while being observed by your trainer. If your trainer is not available to directly observe you, you may video record the role play activity and submit the recording to your trainer.

Ways to prevent and control pest infestation can be through keeping garbage containers closed, cleaning garbage containers regularly, disposing of waste promptly, and regularly checking for infestation. The learner can add more ways to prevent infestation, but the above are some of the most important to include. |

2. Enumerates the different methods you can eliminate a pest infestation. Methods to eliminate a pest infestation includes over-the-counter pesticides, traps, and professional pest extermination services. |

3. Discuss the different methods of eliminating pest infestation. Over-the-counter pesticide includes the use of insecticide and other deadly chemicals. Traps use bait to catch rodents. Professional pest extermination involves hiring a professional pest extermination service. |

4. Recognises the importance of using pesticides and traps according to manufacturer’s instructions. Using the products according to the manufacturer’s instructions is important because it ensures that the product is used properly, effectively, and safely. |
